John Quincy Adams Liked to Skinny-Dip in the Potomac
John Quincy Adams was an avid skinny dipper. That’s right, you heard correctly. This was a president who loved to take a naked dip in the Potomac River.
Adams’ morning routine was quite the spectacle. He would start off with a brisk six-mile walk, followed by a hearty breakfast, and then he’d take a dip in the Potomac River. He’d do it all year round – even in the winter when the water was freezing. Moreover, due to the tide, he almost lost his clothes on a number of occasions.
He reportedly continued his morning routine for most of his life in Washington, D.C.
